In October we remember Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I am reading and reflecting on both my experiences and the thoughts of others about domestic violence during this month. This action is important to me as a survivor of domestic violence.

One book have been reading and quoting for Domestic Violence Awareness Month is “Telling the Truth: Preaching about Sexual and Domestic Violence,” which was written in 1998. There are a lot more resources available now.

Other books on my shelves that discuss domestic violence are also a bit dated. If you can read websites, I recommend starting with thehotline.org. That site has information about other sites, agencies, and opportunities to help others experiencing domestic violence both near and far.

There is a site from the United Methodist Church that has information in both English and Spanish. The site has a link to a webinar on domestic violence, but it is only in English. Sorry, folks: the church loves you, but we need to do a better job of practicing diversity.

En Octubre recordamos el mes de concientización sobre la violencia doméstica. Estoy leyendo y reflexionando sobre ambas mis experiencias y los pensamientos de otra sobre violencia doméstica durante este mes. Esta acción es importante para mi como un sobreviviente de violencia doméstica.

Un libro que he estado leyendo y citando para el Mes de Concientización sobre la Violencia Doméstica es “Decir la verdad: predicar sobre la violencia sexual y doméstica”, que fue escrito en 1998. Hay muchos más recursos disponibles ahora.

Otros libros que hablan sobre violencia doméstica en mi estantadores son tambien un poco viejo. Si puede leer a los sitios de internet, recomendo comienza a leer con thehotline.org. Esa sitio tiene información sobre otras sitios, agencias, y oportunidades a ayudar otras que experiencia violencia doméstica que viven ambos cerca y lejos.

Hay un sitio en la Iglesia Metodista Unida que tiene información tanto en inglés como en español. El sitio tiene un enlace a un seminario web sobre violencia doméstica, pero está solo en inglés. Lo sentimos, amigos: la iglesia los amamos, pero debemos practicar mejor la diversidad.
